Car Travels - Why Take A Minibreak In Beautiful Budapest?
Budapest is the setting for the latest blockbuster action thriller Atomic Blonde starring Charlize Theron. Not only did it provide a stunning Eastern Block backdrop for the period ‘80s film, it is a sensational city to visit and enjoy.
Straddling the magnificent River Danube and with the Budda Hills in the background the City is the home to some stunning architecture. Baroque, neoclassical and Art Nouveau to name just a few styles. However, when you get fed up with the high culture, at night time it becomes one of the party capitals of Europe.
When you want to get to know the city then go on a tour of the Castle district from the Vienna Gate to the Royal Palace. We would also recommend that you cross the Danube and visit to the Parliament building to really understand the history of the City. The tour is fantastic value for money. In the Jewish quarter work your way to or from the Great Synagogue. There is no shortage of great places to eat and drink, go to the kosher Carimama serving great food all day long. Bar 360 on Andrassy avenue is recognised as one of the best rooftop bars in Budapest.
On the subject of food and drink, make sure you find the so called ruin pubs in winter, abandoned buildings with what are effectively pop up bars. In the summer you want to be outside and there are beer gardens which spring up. The trendy areas are the Liszt Ferencter and Raday ucta.
Then there is the shopping which ranges from the usual malls and designer shops to the (much more interesting) local markets. As well as food and folk art, there is a brilliant flea market Ecseri Piac. There you will find jewellery, antiques and Soviet era relics. Best visited on a Saturday you are bound to find that perfect keepsake for yourself or gift for your Auntie.
Budapest, whether you have a week or a long weekend to spare will reward you, the visitor with a wealth of fantastic experiences. No wonder Atomic Blonde filmed there for more than two months.
