There was once a time when social media was nothing but twerking cats, epic fails and dogs doing the craziest things. As time evolved, we now have an altogether more practical phenomena: useful Hacks.
Whether you’re knocking up a pasta dish or discovering beauty tips, there’s bound to be a tip (or hack) to suit your needs. According to research by car finance company Zuto, the trend has also spread to the world of cars, with searches increasing 473% between January and February 2021 across search engines and social channels. From our own analysis the hashtag 'carhacks' has generated 996.7 million views on Tiktok! So, in the spirit of helping you prepare for post lockdown unfettered driving, here are the edited highlights on the top hacks we’ve spotted.
1. Use a towel to stop your windscreen from icing over
The #carhack trend began with this viral video that shows a simple trick of placing a towel over your windscreen to prevent it from freezing. 2. Put socks on windscreen wipers to stop from freezing
This next tip comes from WhoCanFixMyCar.com, all you have to do is find an old pair of socks and pop them on the windscreen wipers to stop them from freezing, this will prevent windscreen wiper damage and also save you time! Watch the hack here. Take a look in your free MotorEasy account area to access Who Can Fix My Car’s services and compare prices and reputation of garages and mechanics near you.
3. Hot water can pop out car dents
Try removing dents by pouring boiling water over a damaged panel and then, using a plunger, apply some force to pop the dent out. A word of caution though, try testing on smaller dents before tackling larger damaged areas, watch Nikhitha Nair's TikTok on this here. Headlights often become dirty and faded over time. But did you know that toothpaste can be a quick solution for reviving their lustre? Use an old toothbrush, toothpaste and warm water to scrub them back to gleaming. See this in action here.
5. Toothpaste also removes bodywork paint marks and scuffs
If another vehicle has left a paint scuff on your car’s bodywork, try using a wet microfibre cloth, a small amount of toothpaste and rub gently in circular motions until the paint has removed. It is advised to use a gentle toothpaste to avoid damaging the paintwork, watch this hack here.
